The Atlas of Healthcare Variation is organised by domains, which cover specific clinical areas. It is is designed to prompt debate and raise questions about health service use and provision amongst clinicians, users and providers of health services about why any differences exist, and to stimulate improvement through this debate.
Atlas development is informed by domain-specific advisory groups of clinicians, consumers and other stakeholders.
Several Atlas measures are currently being updated. The latest versions of their definitions, methods, and data sources—available at the Atlas of Healthcare Variation—will be incorporated into the Measures Library.
Key updates include:
- Measures that previously used Stats NZ population projections or resident populations now uses PHO-enrolled populations as the data source.
- Measures for Atlas domains not currently populated in the Measures Library, such as COPD, will be added.
